The last important model is the Software-as-a-Service. It refers to the delivery of applications. It is  the example of cloud computing that most of us use on a daily basis. Now, remember how the underlying operating system is not useful for us (the users). Yes! This is it. We only access the service served on the plate.

Gmail has transformed the manner we send emails and responsible for the growing use of email in the world. Dropbox, on the other hand, provides customers with access files on any device by its application without occupying much storage. Facebook is the blend of these two. It can keep an infinite amount of information, videos and images on the user’s profile. These services can be accessed through any device. Messenger app of Facebook allows the exchange of data.

Although, the advantages of this concept depends on the type of service being used. But it is true that the firms using cloud computing are free from the burden of maintaining and buying their own digital infrastructure. Using it means now the companies don’t have to worry about updating applications or software and discarding hardware. Because this has already been taken care of by the service provider. The providers who are experts in services of commodity applications have better skills and more qualified staff compared to a small firm.

By using cloud services companies can save a lot of time too. They will not have to spend time buying or maintaining the infrastructure. So, they can invest that time in moving to new projects quickly and test out new concepts. They can easily avoid additional costs and huge procurement. Firms are also free from the burden of hiring internal staff.

Apart from infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service, there are many other technologies associated with cloud computing. One such technology is- Virtualization. Virtualization refers to the process of distributing license keys to physical samples of application among different customers. The main objective of virtualization is to secure a standard version of the cloud service application to all the users. Types of Virtualization includes storage virtualization, hardware virtualization, server virtualization and operating system virtualization.

One other important technology is Service-Oriented Architecture. It refers to the application that separates the services for single business functions and process daily. And it also allows the management related to the cloud to modify and adjust as requested.

Grid computing on the other hand, connects several servers from various places to achieve a common goal.

Future of cloud computing and the potential market

It is not surprising that cloud service spending is increasing faster than expected. Most of the new options and features are being provided as cloud services. The two most commonly used cloud computing services are infrastructure-as-a-service and software-as-a-service. Use of platform-as-a-service is also growing faster. Big firms are now confident that platform-as-a-service is a suitable form of the application development platform. Cloud computing is now a significant branch of mainstream IT sector. Big vendors are trying to dominate the market of cloud services.

The Research predicted that 2/3rd of the spending on cloud services will pass through the top 10 public cloud providers in 2021. It is a proven fact that Alibaba, Amazon, Microsoft are already dominant players in the world market. Because it is cost-effective and easy to adopt, it will continue to grow in the future.
